I am still internet-less at home. Because, well, I'm slack and haven't bothered to organise anything. Electrician is coming next week though, so the wheels are in motion.

In the meantime, the occasional update from my office will have to suffice. Which kind of sucks, really but what can you do, right? Well, apart from be organised but that sounds a bit too much like effort :P

Anyhoo, hopefully I'll be back up and running online again soon - I've no doubt much to catch up on!

This is just a quick post to say that, despite all appearances to the contrary I have not disappeared from the face of the Earth.

There was a bit of a cock-up with getting the phone and internet connected in the new place and, as such, I only have internet access at uni and, well, that can be rather limited.

So, the up-shot is: unexpected hiatus.

Things should be up and running again in, ideally a week but, most probably, it will be closer to two weeks.

Miss you guys.

I am really glad I found this:

Think of all the amazing 25K+ Beecher/Keller I would have missed out on if this meme hadn't got me thinking. Anyway, crisis (yeah, crisis...ahem) averted!

Speaking of potential averted crises - I just got off the phone with Telstra regarding the move and changing over my internet and all that jazz and it was eerily simple. I am greatly confused by this. And sceptical.

The packing goes OK. Slow, at the moment (well, obviously, 'cos at the moment I'm sitting here and typing this), but not too bad. I need more bags for my DVDs. It is quite ridiculous. I haven't even started to tackle the bookshelf yet.

And then there are those pesky things like, you know, clothes. I get the feeling it will be a late night tonight.

1. Name your 10 (or 15, or however many I come up with) absolutely favourite fandom ships (try to pick different fandoms)
2. Ask people to see what trends and similarities they notice about your ships.

1. Remus/Sirius (HP)
2. Howard Moon/Vince Noir (The Mighty Boosh)
3. Peter/Carlos (The Libertines RPF - sounds a bit weird to include it as a fandom. Meh)
4. Beecher/Keller (Oz)
5. Noel Fielding/Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh RPF)
6. Ginny/Hermione (HP)
7. Ginny/Luna (HP)
8. Jeremy/James/Richard (Top Gear)
9. Neville/Ginny (HP)
10. Neville/Draco (HP)

Yeah, I think ten will do. Except that, you know, if there were more Mad Men fic out there, I'd probably squeeze Don/Pete into the list as well.

In other news, I finally got my copy 'Romance at Short Notice' back from my sister. OH HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU ♥♥♥

Now.
Today. I've ditched going into uni. I figured seeing as I'm moving this weekend I should probably, you know, pack something. Or everything, in fact.

So that's the plan for today. That, finish up writing a couple of fics (OK, so in reality the plan is probably going to be more like, "write, and pack when I can be bothered"), and think of 25 things about myself (are there 25 things?).

Well. The presentation at the Shakespeare Society wasn't a complete disaster. I got stumped about three sentences in, of course and was all, "Um ... what was I ... ah ..." but I just quickly rambled my way through what I'd written, looked up often enough to notice some bored expressions, and then I was done. Funny thing is, I felt more at ease answering questions after I'd finished my speed-rambling than when I had the words on a piece of paper in front of me. Meh. Still, the first-ever somewhat proper presentation of a paper is out of the way, so that's something.

I went to see Paul Kelly on Saturday night! It was amazing. He played for two hours, a nice mix of newer stuff and the old classics. It was kind of surreal at times though. Like, when he played, 'From St. Kilda to King's Cross' - that's a song I can remember hearing for, well, as long as I can remember, and it was just, I don't know, weird to see it being performed live and fantastically loud.

Oh! And they played 'Everything's Turning to White', so I was stoked (I had to try really hard to not cry, like I always do whenever I hear that song, but stoked to be hearing it of course. One of my absolute faves ♥).

The support act - Charlie Parr - was brilliant as well. It was completely unexpected how much I enjoyed his set. I love that. When you see an artist you've never heard before and they just blow you away. It's such a delightful bonus :)

I miss the mix tape.

I miss sitting by the radio waiting for *that* song to come on.

I miss the cry of, "Cor! Stop talking!" when the end gets cut off by pointless DJ prattle.

I miss poring over CDs and making lists and narrowing it down and crossing songs off and painstakingly choosing the order.

And I know that it's easier to do all that now with computers and playlists and discs and zip files ...

But it's not nearly as much fun.

Not even close.

AAARGH.

I'm trying to fashion some sort of presentation out of my thesis and it's incredibly frustrating. I decided that, seeing as I've now been asked to speak for 30 minutes instead of 20 (apparently they were unable to sucker anyone else into presenting on a Saturday), what I would do is, first of all, give a brief explanation of Renaissance scepticism which would then lead in to the ways this is present in Troilus and Cressida - namely, through the role of structured oppositions and the theme of disintegration.

Now, the thing is, I need to make it more ... layperson-y and I'm not sure how to do that. I mean, do I still go on about how reviving aspects of Knight's criticism (the role of structured oppositions) is fruitful in reading this play, or do I just say, "Let's use structured oppositions, yay!" Is it too academic to include those sorts of references or not? So, instead of saying, for example, "It is the way in which Knight has framed his analysis in terms of structed oppositions that is valuable" should I say something more like, "If we frame our analysis in terms of structured oppositions ... "???

I don't know.

Hence: AAARGH.

I just cut about half of my hair off (it was about halfway down my back, and now it's just a bit longer than shoulder length).

I'll have to go and get it done properly (needs to be layered), but the ends were bugging me. It was getting that thing where it was knotting and clumping together and not too far removed from dreadlocks in places. So yeah. Gone now. Yay? *shrugs shoulders*

From Billboard.com via Mark Hoppus' blog:

Beyond October, Blink-182 has offers to play Australia’s Big Day Out and other European music festivals in 2010, according to Devoe. “That’s what I’m hoping is going to happen,” the manager says. “And in between these tours is when they’re going to be working on an album.”

Oh yes.

Oh please.

The first time I saw the boys in concert was at BDO (2000; and I've seen them a couple times since, but that's not the point). To see them there again a decade later would be wonderfully cyclical :P

Isn't it funny the way you music gets inside you?

I don't mean in a Spirit of Jazz "I'm-gonna-creep-inside-you-like-a-warm-kitten"-kinda way, but just the way it becomes a part of you.

I was listening to Blink 182's 'Dude Ranch' earlier and it just felt, I don't know, like I was home, in an odd sort of way.

Also, I have new shoes:

Er, odd dream last night.
